Privacy policy
How IceRig Workshop treats your data
IceRig Workshop is an under-ice DIY lab and content site. We publish fictional projects, bench tests and layout ideas for ice fishing rigs. This policy explains what limited information we collect about visitors, why we collect it and which choices you have.
The short version: we avoid collecting personal data unless we really need it to answer a message or keep the site running. We do not sell visitor data, and we do not build marketing profiles from your activity.
1. Scope of this policy
This privacy policy applies to the public pages hosted under the IceRig Workshop domain, including root.html, blueprints.html, bench-tests.html and the legal pages you are reading now. If we ever add a separate app, newsletter or store, we will describe any extra data use in an additional notice.
2. Information we collect
When you browse the IceRig Workshop site, we receive a small amount of technical information that most websites automatically collect. In some cases, you may also choose to provide contact details.
2.1. Technical logs
Our hosting environment records basic log data so we can keep the site secure and understand overall traffic. These logs may include:
- your IP address and approximate region provided by it;
- the pages and assets requested and the time of each request;
- your browser type, operating system and referring page;
- error codes when something fails to load.
We use this information to debug layout issues, spot suspicious traffic and understand which sections of the site are most useful.
2.2. Voluntary contact information
If you contact us directly by e-mail (for example to share a project or report a bug), you choose to share your name, address and any other details included in the message. We use this information only to respond to you and maintain a record of the conversation.
2.3. Cookies and similar tools
The site currently uses only essential cookies and temporary storage on the client side, for example to remember navigation states or smooth animations. We do not run targeted advertising or third-party tracking pixels.
3. How we use collected information
We process data for a small set of purposes:
- Site reliability and security. Logs help us detect attacks, misconfigurations and broken assets such as missing images.
- Content planning. Aggregated statistics may show which rigs, bench tests or blueprint pages attract more interest, so we can decide what to write next.
- Communication. Contact information is used to reply to messages, credit contributors and keep track of follow-up questions.
- Legal compliance. We may retain limited data where necessary to comply with applicable law or respond to lawful requests from authorities.
4. Legal bases for processing (where applicable)
Depending on your region, we may rely on different legal bases to process personal data:
- Legitimate interests for essential logging, security monitoring and analytics that respect your privacy.
- Consent when you decide to contact us directly and voluntarily share personal details.
- Legal obligation when we must retain certain records to meet regulatory or security requirements.
5. When we share information
We do not sell, rent or trade visitor data. Information is shared only in a few limited situations:
- with infrastructure providers that host the website or store backups, under contracts that restrict how they may use the data;
- with service providers that help us monitor performance or detect attacks;
- when required by law, regulation or valid legal process;
- in connection with a merger, acquisition or other change in the structure of the project, in which case we will try to notify you.
6. Data retention
We keep log files and other technical records only for as long as we reasonably need them for security and debugging. Retention periods may vary depending on the type of log and how busy the site is, but we aim to remove or aggregate data after it no longer adds value.
Contact e-mails and support threads are stored for as long as they remain relevant to the conversation. You may ask us to delete or anonymise past messages where local law allows.
7. Your privacy choices and rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or restrict the processing of personal data we hold about you. You may also have the right to object to certain uses of your data or request a portable copy.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details at the end of this page. We may ask for additional information to confirm your identity before acting on your request.
8. Children’s information
IceRig Workshop is aimed at adult hobbyists who understand the risks of cold-weather activities and tool use. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children or target our content at minors. If you believe we have collected information about a child, please contact us so we can remove it.
9. How we protect information
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect data, including encrypted transport (HTTPS), restricted access to logs and regular updates to the software that powers the site. However, no system can guarantee perfect security. Bench-testing rigs is easier than promising that the internet will never fail.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time to reflect new features, legal requirements or security practices. When changes are significant, we will adjust the “Last updated” date and, where reasonable, highlight the updates on the site.
